Interviewing for Education and Social Science Research: The Gateway Approach , Carolyn Lunsford Mears, Palgrave/Macmillan, 2009, page 64 Mears introduces the concept of member checking as a means of engaging and confirming data: Member checking is both a formal and informal practice as well as an ongoing means to check the dependability of the data and the researcher's understanding thereof. It can be done daily or more elaborately: It can be achieved by simply asking study participants to correct contradictory or inaccurate information, to provide additional or illustrative exaples that clarify the account, or to help the investigator come to understand thesituation more clealy, from that person's perspective.
