Interviewing for Education and Social Science Research: The Gateway Approach , Carolyn Lunsford Mears, Palgrave/Macmillan, 2009, page 6 Although challenging the academic world in the way she worked, Mears' work as been widely acclaimed: Throughout this investigation, the research purpose drove the method instead of the other way round. It might have been easier to simply select an establisged methodology and fit my work into that structure, but that would not have fulfilled my purpose for undetaking this effort. I experience something of the same tension in my own programme.
