Attribute Three: Deal with Ambiguity
|
The Coding Manual for Qualitative Researchers, 2nd Edition , Johnny Saldana, Sage, 2013, page 36 Saldana's third attribute is the ability to deal with ambiguity. Explainign that coding is not a precise science with specific algorithms and non-ambiguous answers, he points out that qualitative reseachers may have to spend a long time puzzling over some material in order to work out what it really means, how it fits into the general scheme. He does offer the encouragement that: Rich ideas need time to formulate, so have trust and faith in yourself that these may emerge in due time. I shall be praying about it as well!
